SPORTS I SEE IT: Superbowl Sunday
02/03/07
Written By: Jonathan “JD” DuVall

The NFL football season really ended two weeks ago when the Patriots were infected with the flu bug by the Indiana press corp.

Yet people are still going to gather for this mean nothing Superbowl and eat mass quantities of food, drink, then watch a game and Prince.

I for one will be visiting some dear friends of mine out on the farm. I will be bringing along some Nitro Nachos, costumes, stuff to record and my New snack idea, which I did not create, but believe is perfect for the single guy to make in this Month of Love.

Guys, if you want ladies at your Superbowl party, make this snack. It is a girly snack but a sure way to impress them and get them a little more interested in you and the game.

First buy some sugar cookie dough already fixed up at the store and some favorite fruits, Creamed Cheese and sugar.
Now roll out the cookie dough onto a round pizza/cookie sheet.
Cook the Cookie dough then let it cool to touch.
Mix the sugar and Creamed Cheese together and spread it all over that huge cookie you just made.
Now take your favorite Fruits and place them all over the top of the cookie now covered with creamed cheese. And now you have a fruit Pizza.

WARNING, Before making this dish be sure that the other guys are not around and that you have invited a lot of lady friends over to watch the game.

This way the guys won’t make fun of you.

If they say something just cut them off from the ole Nitro Nachos and they will shut up about it.

The girls will be taken by the fact that you made this all by yourself and how great it tastes and how centered you are.

They will want to know more about you and feel they have something in common. Be sincere in your conversation and always respectful.

I’m JD and that’s pretty much Sports as I know it

January 21st thru the 27th is Hunt for Happiness Week. A week that is set aside from all the rest to encourage you and I to remember to seek out happiness.

What is Happiness? In the Dictionary it is defined as: state of well being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy or emotions experienced when in a state of well-being (www.wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn).

A state of well being, what brings us to a state of well being? Many of us we look for others to bring us happiness. Some feel that they can only be in a "state of well-being" if they are with a certain person, following a certain political party, in a certain religion, out every night at a party, or under the influence of some substance (Drugs, Booze...).

These things do make us feel that we are happy but they are not always things that put us in a state of well-being. These types of happiness come from the outside and not the inside.

To feel a true state of well-being one must take ones talent, call, dream or inspiration from within themselves and share it with the world.

No matter how large or small it may be, to be truly happy we have to do what we love to do. Don't rely on other people or things to make you happy. Happiness from the outside will not put you in a state of well-being. To be in a state of happiness you must do what you love to do. You must know what makes you happy and you must be happy with what you do.

Is being in a state of well-being that important? It is so important that the founding Fathers of The United States of America included "and in the pursuit of happiness." in the Declaration of Independence.

You don’t need a special week to take time to reflect and decide what your call, dream or inspiration is. You can do that today or even right now, so go out there and live the dream and be happy with you. The rest will fall in place.

GOOD GOOD NEWS: Written by "JD" DuVall

“Green Water”
I have to tell you a lot of Positive things have happened this week and this is just one of them. While interviewing Mike Paulhus this week this reporter discovered that a major change had occurred in the area.
Now those of you who listen are quite familiar with Greg the Genius and his support for green energy use. If you are in the area you are also familiar that ECSU and UCONN both have sustainable energy Institutes.
Well this past week I was informed that the very water we drink, shower and cook with is pumped using green energy. Jim Hooper of the Willimantic Water Department and his crew have brought the original 1888 water wheel back online.
Hooper had for some time now been looking at his budget then the wheel house, then the budget and the wheel house. His Yankee ingenuity kept telling him that the Water Department and the town of Willimantic had to be able to benefit from the use of this wheel. Like everyone the water departments energy bill was climbing, in fact prior to bringing the wheel back online, the bill was $16000 a month.

After months of research and tinkering around Hooper decided he was going to make that thing work. Almost a year after he started and the typical minor setbacks, when dealing with equipment over one hundred and fifteen years old, hey turned her on and she has ben turning ever since.
Last week at the Selectmen meeting Jim Hooper reported that since they have turned the Wheel back on the water Department’s wheel has gone from $16000 a month down to $6,000 a month which of course is a $10,000 a month savings and a $120,000 a year savings on their energy bill.
This week I went and spoke with Jim and he took me down to the wheel house giving me the details as we went “Now we aren’t creating electricity here what we are doing is actually using the Wheel to pump the water out to our customers instead of the electric pump that we normally use. If the water level should drop to a point where we would have to convert back to the electric pump we can but this thing has already paid for itself and save our budget and our customers a tremendous amount of money.”

The good, good news is that now that this has been reported and the wheel is online our town is seriously looking at other ways to use our rivers to assist with the high cost of energy today. As Jim Hooper told me “ sometimes we have to remember the old ways to go forward today.”

I am JD and that is your Good, Good News.

This Saturday January 6 2007 - Due to Uconn Basketball conflicts, Reality and Beyond will not air, but will return next week, January 13, 2007 at 6pm. Tune in as Mike Paulhus (First Selctman for the Town of Windham) talks about what is to come in 2007 for the Town of Windham and Emma Ohlund will be in to talk about Americorp, Girl Scouts and another Food Bank Drive as we celebrate National Humanitarian Day and Penguin Recognition Day.

New Years Eve in Willimantic - saw the first annual Frog Leap into the New year. On December 30th at 9:55 our crew celebrated the New Year. This will be a huge event here in Willimantic in the future. A wooden Frog given to our staff by Jean De Smet (founder of the Third Thursday Street Festival) Leaped across the WILI sound board following the typical New Years countdown.
This week in an interview with Mike Paulhus (First selectman of the Town of Windham) the proposal to have a huge event next year throughout Willimantic using Green Energy, different locations, Fireworks, Lightshows, Bands and Organizations were introduced. Paulhus officially endorsed the idea and pointed us in the directions we need to go to make this an incredible event next year. Be sure to hear the interview January 13, 2007 between 6pm and 8:30pm on 14 WILI or our live stream at www.realityandbeyond.com.

One Week of Training, 7 other WILI staff members, at least 20 EO Smith Staff members and 150 audience members raised 300 non-perishable food items and $300 for the Covenant Soup Kitchen located on Valley Street in Willimantic.

John Tuite of WILI's news team and "The Vinyal frontier show" was the only injury of the night after he dislocated his left elbow trying to stop a fall. He was taken to Windham hospital where he was treated and released. John Tuite was named MVP for his effort and sacrifice to raise money and food for the Convenant Soup Kitchen.

This week's Show topic was from the ABC's of Dreams, B- Believe in yourself and M- make it happen, two things that were demonstrated last night as those of us who don't normally play basketball believed that we could give a good show and help someone else. The EO Smith Staff demonstrated M by making this event happen and a big pat on the back for those that came to support this event.
